The previous edition took the story up to 1962 and the F4H Phantom. This one provides corrections and additions to the original text and illustrations. For example, the F7U chapter has been significantly revised based on my F7U-1 monograph and the 381-page F7U-3 book I wrote with Cutlass-expert Al Casby; the Mach 2 chapter incorporates material from my monographs on the first 47 Phantom IIs and the F8U-3; and the chapter “Disappointments” is now "Missteps and False Ones" to include VTOL fighters. New chapters include F6D/F-111B (benefiting from my original monograph and subsequent research), F-14A/B/C/D, and F-18 A/B/C/D, which includes material from my "Strike From the Sea". Significant events post 1993 are also covered including the retirement of the F-14 and "legacy" F-18 as well as the introduction of the F-18E/F and F-35C. The Summary and Epilogue has been updated to expand upon the F-18E/F and JSF/F-35C chapters and discuss the forthcoming unmanned and F/A-XX programs.

I loved the original book. How many pages are planned for this one? It will be difficult to fit the first one in its entirety and add a much longer time period

All the additional chapters are additional pages. The layout is still in progress so I don't have a page count yet.
I read the original edition (titled "US Naval Air Superiority: Development of Shipborne Jet Fighters 1943-1962") and I really enjoyed it. The two things that stood out in this book were the fact that Grumman G-98L derivative of the F11F-1F Super Tiger was referred to as "F12F" and also North American Aviation's work on the D-229 Super Fury design in November 1953 (the D-246 proposed in June 1954 was also called Super Fury by North American).
I look forward to reading the revised edition when it comes out, since it expands coverage of the history of US Navy jet fighter development.
As a side note, the writing "F6D/F-111B" in the synopsis of this book at the Crecy website should read "F6D, F-111B" because the F6D was never built and the F-111B arose from the TFX requirement.
Is the release date shifted to March 2026? At least that is what Amazon UK says. On the side note I love your books on XF8U-3, F-111B and development of the Phantom. As a Tomcat fan, I just wish someday you will write similar book on the development of the F-14, but in the meantime, I just can't wait to read the Tomcat chapter in the revised US Naval Air Superiority book.
